The NC Zoo

You can explore over 2600 acres of animals at the NC Zoo in Asheboro, NC. You’ll see bears, elephants, cougars, and more! They are the largest natural habitat zoo in North America!

Here’s what to expect:

  • They are open from April to October from 9 am to 5 pm and open from November to March from 9 am to 4 pm. They are open daily except on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
  • Adult admission is $15-$20, Children’s admission (ages 3-12) is $11-$16, and Children under 3 are free.
  • They offer group rates, birthday parties, feeding tours, and more!
  • You can enjoy extra activities, special animal encounters, hiking trails, and more at this zoo!

Tiger World

You can see tigers, leopards, lions, snakes, and more at Tiger World. Here is what you need to know:

  • They are open year-round 9 am to 5 pm.
  • They are closed on Wednesdays, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
  • Check the hours and tour info on their website before visiting.
  • Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for children (ages 2-17), $12 for seniors (ages 62+).
  • They offer group discounts, homeschool group discounts, and season passes.
  • Tiger World offers birthday parties, and special events, and has a reciprocal zoo program with several zoos in America.

Zootastic Park

They offer several exotic animals including lions, tigers, monkeys, giraffes, and more! Here is what you can expect:

  • They are open Sunday from 12 pm to 5 pm, Monday 9 am to 5 pm, closed on Tuesday, and open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm.
  • Admission is $17 for adults and $15 for children (ages 2-11). Ticket admission includes the walk-around part of the zoo and the drive-thru part.
  • The park takes about 2 hours to view.
  • They offer animal encounters which you can reserve on their website.

Sea Life Charlotte Aquarium at Concord Mills

SEA LIFE Aquarium is adjacent to Concord Mills and offers 10 interactive zones to explore.

While this aquarium is smaller than some of the other aquariums in the area, it still offers plenty to explore. Plan on 45 minutes to an hour for your visit. At the end, there is a play space (and fortunately plenty of parent seating) where smaller kids can get some energy out. Here’s what to expect:

  • Tickets start at $19.99 per person. It is best to buy the tickets online to be sure you will get access to the aquarium if they are busy.
  • They are open most days from 10 am to 6 pm but hours can change so check their website before visiting

Carolina Raptor Center

Experience and learn about amazing raptors at the Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville, NC. Here’s what to expect:

Carolina Raptor Center
  • They are open 7 days a week from 10 am to 4 pm. They are closed New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day only.
  • Adult admission (ages 23-65) is $16, adults (ages 13-22) are $14, and Children (ages 3-13) are $12. Kids under age 3 are free.
  • You can meet a raptor on Wednesday and Thursday at 1 pm, Saturdays and Sundays at 1 pm.
  • They offer several weekly programs to enjoy!

Rowan Wildlife Adventures

Their facility includes a nature center, the T.M Stanback Barnyard, and Wildlife Adventures all located inside of Dan Nicholas Park in Salisbury, NC. They have various reptiles, mammals, fish, and more!

  • They are only open seasonally from April to October. Hours vary by month so be sure to check their website before visiting.
  • The nature center is free to all. Wildlife Adventures admission is $2.00 for adults (ages 10+) and $1.00 for children under 9. The T.M Stanback Barnyard is $0.50 for adults (ages 10+) and $0.50 for children under 9. Infants are free.
  • They offer summer camps for kids each summer.
