Have you been to SCarowinds? The Carowinds Theme Park opens every Halloween season for the scare-seeking brave among us who are ready for a spooky, screaming good time. We have all the details from our visit and a video of what you can expect!

What is Carowinds’ Scarowinds?

After 6 pm the Carowinds park transforms to a haunting playground for monstrous creatures! Each area of the park has its own theme with a corresponding maze to explore. The event also includes haunting shows, themed food, and actors ready to scare.

SCarowinds is included with your regular park admission, so if you visit Carowinds on a Scarowinds day you enjoy the amusements by day, and the scares by night.

Important Things to Know About SCarowinds

  • The park is swarming with talented actors ready to terrorize you as you make your way to the mazes. 👹
  • If you prefer not being scared in the scare zones they offer a “No-Boo” glowing necklace for purchase. However, be forewarned, the necklaces do not work inside the mazes. ❌
  • Throughout the evening there are mesmerizing performances and otherworldly shows featuring a new “Wake the Dead: A Murder Mystery Musical” at the Carowinds Theater. 🎶
  • You can buy a gold pass NOW and have unlimited access to Scarowinds, Winterfest, and it will last all through 2025! The Gold pass also has a free Pre-K pass for ages up to 4! 🏅

New! This Fall at Carowinds

  • Tricks and Treats daytime event is Family-friendly until 6 pm on weekends. Families that are dressed up in costume have a chance at winning the costume contest and riding on a float during the parade
  • This year at Carowinds experience their new “Oktoberfest” celebration.
  • These family events begin at 11 am and last until 7 pm, however stay for the evening and be prepared for the transformation to SCarowinds.
  • After 6 pm be prepared for a frightful evening geared towards teens and adults. The “Conjure the Night” show is definitely for a more mature audience.
  • SCarowinds is no longer a separately ticketed event.
  • The new “Wake the Dead: A Murder Mystery Musical” at the Carowinds Theater was a lot of fun because of audience participation in choosing who was most likely the murderer.

We sent Kidding Around’s Crystal to check out 2024 Scarowinds, plus the other Fall offerings form Carowinds. Here’s what she thought!

From the moment you enter the park, you notice the festive fall decor filled with various photo ops and playful sounds beckoning you to enter their festive fall wonderland.

Tricks and Treats

On select Saturdays and Sundays starting September 14th, Carowinds transforms into their new “Tricks and Treats” Fall Festival. This daytime event is filled with family-friendly Halloween-themed activities and exciting live performances. There will also have candy stations at different areas within the park, so come in costume and compete at the county fair.

You may end up appearing on their Leviathon float during their kooky-spooky parade by the midways. Don’t let your ghouls and goblins fill up on too much candy though, because their themed spooky eats and creepy treats this year are sure to excite their monster appetites.

Oktoberfest

This year at Carowinds experience their new “Oktoberfest” celebration which will be in addition to the Tricks and Treats event. Oktoberfest begins September 14th and continues until November 2nd, 2024 and will showcase authentic German foods and live performances that the whole family can enjoy.

From lively indoor performances in lederhosen to music while dining outdoors at the Biergarten, raise a stein to food and fellowship. This event begins at 11 am and lasts until 7 pm, however stay for the evening and be prepared for the transformation to SCarowinds.

After 6 pm be prepared for a frightful evening geared towards teens and adults. SCarowinds is no longer a separately ticketed event. The park converts from the playful atmosphere to a hauntingly eerie playground for monstrous creatures.

Each area has its own themed sinister playlist and you’ll soon find yourself being hunted at one of the scare zones as you make your way to the cursed mazes. The mazes are each themed differently and range from the demented to the disgusting.

These mazes are fully staffed with talented, tortured souls who take pleasure in terrorizing you. If you prefer not being scared in the scare zones, they offer a “No-Boo” glowing necklace for purchase. However, be fore-warned, the necklaces do not work inside the mazes.

Throughout the evening there are mesmerizing performances and otherworldly shows featuring a new “Wake the Dead: A Murder Mystery Musical” at the Carowinds Theater.

If you’re not a fan of waiting in large lines you may want to purchase a Fright Lane pass. This will allow you to skip to the front of the lines and can be used once per maze. For the purchase of one weekend ticket, you get admission to three different and exciting events.
