Things to Do at Rankin Lake Park

Play Disc Golf Lakeside

If your family loves disc golf — or wants to try it for the first time — Rankin Lake’s 18-hole disc golf course is a fun way to explore the park. The course loops through grassy fields with scenic lake views along the way.

Shaded Playground = Happy Kids

Little ones will love the shaded playground that includes:

  • A kid-sized zipline ride, even my teens had to take a few rides
  • Slides and climbing structures
  • Benches nearby so grown-ups can take a break

Boat Rentals, Fishing, & Trails

There’s so much more to explore beyond the playground:

  • Boat Rentals: Rent jon boats, kayaks, canoes, or pedal boats from the lake office. Rentals start at $5/hour and include the fishing fee if you’re casting a line from the boat.
  • Fishing: Allowed from two piers or by boat. A North Carolina fishing license is required for anyone age 16+, and non-residents pay a $2–$3 fee per person.
  • Walking Trail: The 1.569-mile paved loop around the lake is stroller-friendly and perfect for scooters or bikes. The trail is part of the larger Carolina Thread trail network of trails if you’re looking for a longer walk.
  • Boardwalks & Creek Crossings: Explore three boardwalks (two over Kaylor Creek, one over the lake spillway).
  • Outdoor Classroom: A cool bonus space for school groups or curious explorers.

Picnic, Clubhouse, & Group Spaces

Planning a group day out or just a picnic lunch? You’ve got lots of options:

  • Eight small picnic shelters
  • One large general-use shelter
  • Two lakeside corporate shelters
  • Clubhouse with a warming kitchen, tables, and restrooms — available to rent

Restrooms are conveniently located by the lake, near the main activity areas.

Note: Swimming is not allowed in the lake.
