Hobo’s in Rock Hill and Fort Mill, SC: Family-Friendly Burgers, Live Music, and Outdoor Play (2026)

Posted on |

Looking for a family-friendly restaurant just a short drive south of Charlotte where the kids can actually run around while you enjoy your meal? Hobo’s has you covered. Located just across the state line in York County, SC, this local favorite boasts two vibrant locations in Rock Hill and Fort Mill.

It’s the perfect greater Charlotte area day trip for parents, featuring massive outdoor turf patios for the kids, weekly live music, a scratch kitchen packed with gourmet specialty burgers, and a full bar serving up spiked milkshakes for the grown-ups. Here is your ultimate guide, from local mom, Rachael, to everything you need to know before you go to Hobo’s Rock Hill.

We visit Hobo’s every time we roll through Charlotte, and it’s one of our favorite places. If you haven’t been yet, you’re missing out. This is the kind of spot where the whole family is happy: the kids are entertained, the food is genuinely good, and Mom and Dad can actually relax with a drink on the patio. Both locations have their own personality, but the vibe is the same: laid-back, welcoming, and made for families.

The Rock Hill Location: History, Live Music, and Room to Run

The Rock Hill location at 520 Cherry Rd is something special. This building was actually a restored Coca-Cola bottling building from the 1940s! You can feel the history the moment you walk in, with original brick and wood throughout. The ceilings are soaring and the whole space has this cool, industrial-meets-casual energy.

Rock Hill often has live music, which adds to the fun, relaxed atmosphere. They also have a small and simple arcade room with two claw machines and a free basketball free-throw game. While it isn’t massive, it kept our kids entertained while we waited for our food. For families, that’s a win.

But my favorite part (other than the food) is the large turf area where kids can run free while you enjoy your drink or dinner on the patio. We were afraid our plans would be rained out on our last visit, but the drizzle of rain didn’t stop the kids from having fun outside! The patio and bar area open both inside and outside, so you can keep an eye on the kids while you relax. It’s also dog-friendly on the patio, so bring the whole crew.

The Fort Mill Location: Cozy Downtown Vibes

The Fort Mill location at 213 Main St is a cozy space in the heart of the downtown with a few shops to browse nearby. It’s minutes away from The Fort Mill History Museum and Fort Mill Community Playhouse (a performing arts theater), so you could easily make a full day of it.

This location also offers a great patio with umbrellas for shade and a large turf area where kids can play too! The interior at Fort Mill has its own charm with reclaimed wood booths, track-made foot rails, and spike coat hooks that carry out the railroad theme. It’s a little more intimate than the Rock Hill spot, but just as family-friendly.

The Food: Specialty Burgers and So Much More

They have a huge selection of specialty burgers and really, everything there is delicious. The menu is built around bold American classics made fresh daily from a scratch kitchen, and the portions are generous.

Some of the most popular menu items include:

  • Pimento Cheese Fritters (a must-order appetizer)
  • Chicken and Waffle Sandwich
  • Classic Cobb Salad
  • Stacked Sandwiches
  • Fried Green Tomatoes
  • BLT Bandit Fries
  • Sunrise Burger (with fried egg and bacon strips)
  • Buffalo Chicken Sandwich

The Classic Cobb Salad is one of the most popular menu items, and for good reason.

Both locations have the same menu, but the Rock Hill location will occasionally run specials or test new menu items, so there’s always something new to try if you’re a regular.

And Mom and Dad, don’t forget a spiked shake for dessert! They also have a great selection of craft beers and cocktails, so date night here works too.

Tips for Visiting Hobo’s with Kids

  • Request patio seating so the kids can easily run back and forth to the turf play area while you eat.
  • The Rock Hill arcade room is small but perfect for keeping kids busy during the wait. Bonus: the basketball free-throw game is free!
  • If you’re visiting the Fort Mill location, plan to walk around downtown and browse the nearby shops before or after your meal.
  • Both spots can get lively on live music nights, which is fun but can be louder. If your little ones are sensitive to noise, aim for a weekday lunch instead.
  • Don’t skip the Pimento Cheese Fritters. Trust us on this one.
  • You can order online through their website for takeout or delivery if you’d rather skip the wait.
