Located just outside Charlotte in the Waverly shopping center, Breezeway Coffee Roasters is a quaint, family-owned spot known for small-batch roasts, coffee, tea, and a few baked treats. The indoor space is cozy and cheerful, the kind of place where you sit down “for a minute” and end up staying longer.
There’s outdoor seating too, plus a turf greenspace and splash pad right next door. It’s a great stop if you’ve got kids who need to burn energy while you enjoy your coffee in peace.
Brakemans Coffee & Supply
225 N Trade Street, Matthews, NC
Brakeman’s Coffee and Supply is set inside an old house from the early 1900s and is easily the cutest coffee shop in downtown Matthews. They’re known for great coffee, rotating seasonal drinks, and a daily pastry lineup that’s always tempting. The space itself is half the fun, with seating spread throughout the house, the glassed-in front porch, and outdoor areas that are calm and inviting.
The staff is also genuinely friendly, which makes it an easy place to work, catch up with someone, or enjoy a slow morning. Add convenient parking nearby and it’s no surprise locals love this place.
CoCo and the Director
100 W Trade Street, Charlotte, NC
Coco and the Director is in the heart of downtown as part of the Charlotte Marriott Center. It has a fun, energetic vibe as soon as you walk in. They serve killer coffee, fresh pastries, baked breads, quick lunch options, and Green Brothers smoothies. The standout feature is the seating, especially the big stair area and the upstairs space that is perfect for working or meeting up.
There are larger tables tucked in the back and quieter spots if you want to spread out. It’s a great place to stop if you’re downtown and want coffee with a little buzz around you.
The Collective Cafe

The Collective Café is one of those places that can be whatever you need it to be that day. You can grab a latte and breakfast, settle in to work, meet someone for lunch, or even host an event without it feeling formal. The menu goes beyond coffee with sandwiches, salads, plates, and empanadas, so it’s easy to stay awhile.
The space is comfortable and relaxed, with indoor seating, outdoor tables, and plenty of parking. A nice bonus is that part of the proceeds from their white-label coffees support local charities.
Waterbean Coffee

Waterbean Coffee started with a simple idea about what makes a really good cup of coffee, and that care still shows. It began in Cornelius and has grown into a familiar name around Charlotte with locations all over the city. Waterbean offers pour-overs, French press, Aeropress, and a wide range of espresso options, all using USDA-certified organic coffee.
Each location has its own personality, which keeps things interesting. These are the kind of spaces great for slowing down, meeting friends, studying, or just hanging out without feeling rushed.
