Looking for a fun and festive fall activity with the kids that’s also affordable? Bush-N-Vine Farm in York, SC is less than an hour from Charlotte, NC and it is packed with everything we love about fall — pumpkin picking, farm treats, and free play for the kids!
The pumpkins in this pumpkin patch are legit on-the-vine pumpkins, giving you the true u-pick pumpkin experience that’s kind of rare in this area. Best part? FREE admission to the patch and the farm. YAY!
We visited on a crisp Saturday with our teen daughter and her friend. It was the perfect mix of fall things to do without the hassle of big crowds.

Pick Your Pumpkins Right Off the Vine
As mentioned above, you can pick pumpkins straight off the vine. There are wagons available if needed, but we didn’t use one. Just wander through the patch, and choose your favorite(s). It probably goes without saying to watch your step. The ground is a little uneven, and as you move through the rows you don’t want to damage any plants that might still be growing or pumpkins yet to be picked.

There were tons of pumpkins to choose from when we visited, and we only walked a small portion of the patch.
Pumpin patch tip: Wear closed-toe shoes. There may be mud. There may be ants. Enough said.

Once you’ve found your pumpkins just head to the check-out tent behind the farm cafe.
- Pumpkins under 5 lbs: $1.15 per pound
- Pumpkins over 5 lbs: $0.69 per pound
- You only pay for what you pick, but please do pay if you pick it! Don’t leave pumpkins you’ve picked in the field.
Free Farm Fun for the Kids at Bush-N-Vine
There’s no admission fee to get into the pumpkin patch or the kids’ play area! We love, love, love this. Our teens were obviously too old for the play area, but there were lots of little kids and parents having a blast.
Kids can enjoy:
- Swings and farm-themed toys
- A corn pit filled with dried corn (a classic hit!)
- Space to run, dig, and explore
You can relax while the kids play — or jump in the corn pit too (we won’t tell).
In addition, the farm offers u-pick flowers (for a fee) and a 1-mile hiking trail if you want to stretch your legs.
If you loved that free play space, make sure to show the farm some love and purchase something tasty to enjoy, or a couple of pumpkins to bring home.
Treat Yourself at the Farm Store and Café
Once you’ve picked your pumpkins and played, make your way to the farm store and café. They’ve got fresh produce, baked goods, local jams, and fall goodies perfect for taking home.

At the café, don’t miss:
- Apple pie ice cream (so good)
- Fresh donuts
- Hot dogs for a quick lunch
There’s plenty of seating and a beautiful space to hang out while everyone enjoys a treat.
Fall Fun That’s Easy on the Budget

Even on a Saturday, Bush-N-Vine felt relaxed and welcoming. Parking was smooth, the staff was helpful, and there was plenty of space in the pumpkin patch.
The farm does recommend coming on weekday mornings for the least crowds.
